10,000 B.C. Movie Review

I saw 10,000 B.C. in theaters and remember loving it. The next day, I went online and was amazed to realize that it got only 10% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Most of the complaints were regarding historical accuracy. Really??? It's a fantasy movie, and all you're interested in is historical accuracy?
This is one of those situations where critics largely disagreed with viewers, as the movie was a box office success and is getting almost 3.5 stars on Amazon. Unlike critics, most people prefer action filled entertainment over scientific timelines. And this movie delivered entertainment by the bucketload. Critics generally agreed that this movie was visually stunning, drawing visual comparisons to Jurassic Park or even Lord of the Rings. However, unlike viewers, they were generally hung up on whether or not this movie was historically accurate or not. And regardless, why should I trust a movie critic about science anyways?
In conclusion, if you are expecting Blue Planet, then you will hate 10,000 B.C. However, if imaginative fantasies don't make your blood boil, give this movie a try.

Hobbit Movie Series Quick Review

I saw the final Hobbit movie last night. I always enjoy taking a trip to Middle Earth, even if the movies fall short of Lord of the Rings status. I feel there was too much filler in each of the Hobbit movies, and that they should have edited the three movies down to make two great movies. But only two movies would mean less money. And, as this movie pointed out, the allure of box office dragon gold is very powerful.

Dumb and Dumber To Review

Saw Dumb and Dumber To last night.I wasn't expecting much since I read the reviews in advance, so the movie wasn't a huge disappointment for me. Still, I felt like there were just a few hilarious moments, while the first one was full of them. It wasn't a great movie at all, but I'm glad they made it, for nostalgic reasons and because Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are generally funny together, even if the script is...well... dumber.

1971 Willy Wonka vs. 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

In my opinion, the original Willy Wonka movie (starring Gene Wilder) is far superior to the 2005 movie (starring Johnny Depp). The original movie was magical, fun and captivating. Gene Wilder had an incredibly magnetic personality. Conversely, Johnny Depp comes across as a completely strange and unattractive figure. The magnetic charm of Willy Wonka is an important facet of the original movie, and I feel that it is almost completely lost in the 2005 version. I'm usually a fan of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp pairings, but their unique brand of weirdness was wasted on this flick.

That being said, I do feel like many other elements of the Tim Burton version were done well. Actually, up until Willy Wonka was introduced, I was enjoying the film. Aside from the main attraction himself (Willy Wonka), the acting was great. But since Willy Wonka is such a central figure in this movie, a distractingly weird portrayal by Johnny Depp can not be ignored. An unattractive Willy Wonka completely hurts the plot about why people wanted to meet him so badly.
